AI Robocops Take Over Major Chinese Cities

In cities like Shanghai and Hangzhou, humanoid robots have been deployed to help improve traffic safety, giving the world a peek into the future of smart cities.

China’s major cities are now testing AI Robocops which have been officially rolled out to help assist with traffic control by directing cars, helping pedestrians, and improving busy intersections.

In Shanghai and Hangzhou, the robot officers have begun helping pedestrians and bike riders with spoken commands like “Red light, please stop” as they can read light signals. They stand at 5 ’11 and are equipped with cameras and sensors that help monitor traffic in real time and some models can even alert traffic violations.

Chinese officials say their goal is to help improve safety and free up human officers for other important tasks. If basic traffic monitoring can be handled efficiently, then police officers will be able to focus on emergencies and safety priorities.

China has already integrated AI into transportation and other aspects of everyday life and these Robocops are only pushing the country another step closer to becoming a full on smart city. The robots are still in their testing phases, but their presence emphasizes how close the world is to living alongside them.
